Rockland Community College has been selected as a聽2021 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award winner from聽INSIGHT Into Diversity聽magazine, the nation鈥檚 oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education. Each semester,鈥痶he聽Visual and Performing Arts Department鈥痟olds Skills Proficiency Tests (SPT)鈥痜or students enrolled in the Theatrical Stage Combat courses. Last month, the school held its first SPT in Lightsaber. Christopher Plummer, Director of RCC鈥檚 Cultural Arts Theatre is a Certified Teacher with the Society of American Fight Directors (SAFD) and held the certification tests along鈥痺ith鈥疨atricia Maloney-Titland, Professor in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts. 鈥淭he SPT certification test is a rigorous demonstration and examination of their new skill sets and each student challenged themselves in new and wonderful ways.鈥� Plummer says.鈥�淲hile the students studied martial techniques associated with longsword, the focus of the course was Lightsaber and it was a鈥痟uge鈥痵uccess!鈥�
